Reason To Use Stretch Mark Creams

If you are anticipating stretch marks to form on your skin due to pregnancy, you most probably are putting on some sort of cream on your belly, hips and thighs to prevent them from forming. Using regular creams may not be a very good option to use as it hardly makes your skin more resistant to tearing. Most creams usually have a moisturizing effect which may not be enough to prevent stretch marks from forming.

The best choice for this situation is by using stretch mark creams as these are made specifically for this purpose. It works by increasing the elasticity of the skin so that it can accommodate the increase in size. This property is not needed for regular use so it should be used only when anticipating stretch marks to form.

Collagen and elastin are the important proteins needed by the skin to make them more elastic. Some stretch mark creams work by supplying the skin with these proteins. Others on the other hand, work by stimulating the body to produce more of these proteins so increase the support of the skin.

Just because you used this cream, it does not automatically guarantee that you won't form any stretch marks. It only decreases the risk by increasing your skin's elasticity. But when the skin stretches even further, the dermal layer can still break and result in the formation of scars.

This does not mean that you are also wasting your money by using this cream. Instead of having 10 stretch marks, using creams can help decrease the number of these marks. This way, there would be very few marks that form compared to when you don't use this cream at all.

Set aside your regular cream or lotion if you are expecting your body to increase in size in such a short amount of time like in pregnancy. Be sure to use a stretch mark cream that has the ability to increase your skin's elasticity so that it becomes more resistant to tearing.
